Iggy Has Joined the Mile High Club

by Ginny Price

Enroute to Westminster, the pilot in Minneapolis noticed that there was no heat where the dog crate was and I guess no heat means no air so they did not want Iggy down in cargo and thus could not take him. That meant either I got off or he came into the passenger area. When I said he is really well behaved the Captain asked the last row of passengers if they would mind moving to allow the dog on board. He announced to the rest of the plane that we had a Westminster dog to get to New York.

Iggy with the Delta Airlines crew

It took some very tricky work to move the kennel out of cargo then close to the plane so that the pilot could go and get Iggy, put him on his leash and walk him from the tarmac up the stairs to the plane. He was a bit hesitant due to the noise and then those metal stairs but when he heard my voice he came right up and calmly walked on board as the passengers cheered. We sat at the back of the plane in the last row and he laid down on the floor, enjoying the ice cubes from the attendants for the next 2 hours.

Of course, on departing he just had to walk through the entire La Guardia airport to the pet taxi, none the worse for wear. It was an amazing trip. Well, actually, unbelievable and so good of Delta airlines to be so flexible under the circumstances. In this day and age when the airlines are often under attack from many points of view here is one story to keep in mind. They really did try to do what was best for the pet in this case.

Needless to say the trip home was without such excitement but smooth flying and safe arrivals even though Ig was in cargo.
