Thunder Bay Juniors Shine

Thunder Bay, Ontario - by Sophia Wenzel

There are many children here in Thunder Bay who also show in the regular show and have done some impressive things. In addition to Melanie, who was the runner up at the Nationals this year and is very modest and wonderful person who has done exceptional in the regular ring, my nine- year-old daughter Elizabeth got her Shih Tzu last year as a pet and last May decided to show her “for fun.”

To our surprise, Elizabeth and her dog “Rosie” did very well for a very young and brand new owner/handler duo.  Elizabeth put a championship on her dog herself over the

summer, with two back-to-back best puppy in shows (on her 9th birthday – best birthday present ever) at the September show and went to Fort Garry show the next month and beat the #2 or #3 Shih Tzu in Canada for breed.

With tough Shih Tzu competition here in Thunder Bay (ie:  Randles, Coralee Romano) she has done quite the job for a 8/9 year old.  She has a true passion for dogs and showing them and has gained great confidence in life from this experience.  It is amazing to see the support that other handlers (professional to novice) and judges show the young people in the regular ring.
